In most cases, no. Most states allows for "Direct Access," meaning you can come directly to a physical therapist for an evaluation and treatment without seeing a doctor first. This gets you on the road to recovery faster. However, if you are using insurance there are some specific plans that do have requirements regarding signatures or referrals. If your insurance has specific requirements, we will let you know before your first visit. (Medicare does NOT require a referral to get started with therapy).
During your first visit, you'll undergo a comprehensive evaluation. We'll discuss your medical history, assess your current condition, and perform a physical examination. This helps us understand your specific needs and goals. Based on this information, we'll develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique situation. You'll also have the opportunity to ask any questions and discuss any concerns you might have about your treatment.
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows access to the body part being evaluated/treated. Athletic wear that allows you to move freely is best.
-Your photo ID (Driver’s License). -Your current health insurance card. -A list of any medications you are currently taking. -Your physician’s referral or script (if you have one). If you already uploaded this with your intake forms submitted online, then you are all set! If you did not fill them out ahead of time online, please arrive 15 minutes early to fill them out with all the items listed above.
The number of sessions you'll need depends on several factors, including the severity of your condition, your individual progress, and your treatment goals. Typically, your physical therapist will discuss an estimated number of sessions during your initial evaluation. As you progress, the plan may be adjusted based on your improvement and ongoing needs. Our primary goal is to help you recover efficiently and safely, tailoring the number of sessions to ensure the best possible outcome for you.
We prioritize continuity of care because we believe building a relationship with your therapist leads to better results. On very rare occasions (due to scheduling or vacation), you may see a different member of our team; otherwise, you will be with the same therapist every time.
We work with most major insurance plans, including Medicare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, and Aetna. Because plans vary widely, our front desk team will collect your insurance information before your first visit and verify your specific physical therapy benefits for you.
Absolutely, in fact most patients opt for this route! We offer self-pay rates for patients who are uninsured, have high-deductible plans, or simply prefer not to use insurance.
While all three professions treat pain, Physical Therapy focuses heavily on long-term independence. We don't just treat the symptoms; we use movement re-education and strengthening to fix the cause so the pain doesn't come back. We want to give you the tools to fix yourself, rather than relying on us forever.
Our physical therapy sessions typically last 45 minutes. For initial evaluations, we dedicate 90 minutes to ensure a thorough assessment and to develop a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to your needs. This extended time allows us to fully understand your condition and set the foundation for effective therapy.
In most cases, yes! Your therapist will tell you exactly what they want you to do/ or temporarily limit until symptoms calm down, but we rarely want you to stop moving completely. We believe in "active recovery" and you staying in the gym, not giving it up. Bring your workout routine to your therapist, and we can show you how to modify it to stay safe while you heal.
Yes. When appropriate, we use manual therapy techniques like joint mobilization, soft-tissue work, dry needling, and directional loading strategies. These help decrease pain quickly so you can move more easily and progress into strengthening.
In many cases, yes. Most pain improves with the right combination of movement correction, strength training, and hands-on care. We’ll also tell you honestly if imaging or a surgical consult is appropriate.
Yes. One of our main goals is education. You’ll understand exactly what is causing your pain, why it’s happening, and how to fix it. Knowing the root cause reduces fear and speeds up recovery.
If pain limits your workouts, daily activities, sleep, or quality of life—even slightly—PT is the right next step. A short evaluation can determine exactly what’s going on and what your fastest path forward looks like.
