Elbow Pain Relief at Alinea Performance

Strength-based physical therapy that gets you out of pain and back to training confidently — without injections, surgery, or endless rest.

Common Elbow Pain Patterns We Treat Every Week

The Most Common Elbow Complaints We See in Athletes & Active Adults:

  • Sharp pain when pressing, pushing, or gripping especially during workouts
  • Persistent ache around the elbow that can disrupt tasks or even sleep
  • Grip weakness
  • Limited range of motion affecting sports like pull ups, pickleball, or tennis
  • Clicking, popping, or catching during bending/ extending the elbow
  • Pain radiating down the forearm or into the wrist

Why Elbow Pain Doesn't Fix Itself

The elbow handles a lot of stress with lifting and gripping, which makes it easy to injure and slow to heal. From years of treating elbow pain, we know that waiting usually leads to worse symptoms.
Ignoring elbow pain leads to compensatory movement patterns, weakened muscles, and chronic instability. What starts as mild discomfort can escalate into a condition requiring surgery.
The good news? With the right approach, most elbow pain is completely reversible.

Common Conditions We Treat in Alinea Performance

At Alinea Performance, we specialize in treating a wide range of elbow conditions:

Tennis Elbow

Irritation of the tendons on the outside of the elbow, causing pain with gripping, lifting, or pulling. Common in lifters, racquet sports, and anyone with repetitive hand or wrist use.

Golfer's Elbow

Inflammation of the tendons on the inside of the elbow, leading to pain with gripping, lifting, or rotational movements. Often seen in golfers, throwers, and strength athletes.

Triceps Tendinopathy

Overuse or irritation of the triceps tendon at the back of the elbow, causing pain with pressing, push-ups, dips, or overhead lifting.

Cubital Tunnel Syndrome

Compression of the ulnar nerve on the inside of the elbow, leading to numbness, tingling, or pain down the forearm into the ring and pinky fingers.

Pronator Syndrome

Entrapment of the median nerve near the elbow, causing forearm pain, grip weakness, and symptoms similar to carpal tunnel but higher up the arm.

Barbell Elbow

Overuse irritation from frequent pressing, front rack holds, or gripping during lifting, leading to pain on either the inside or outside of the elbow.

Olecranon (Elbow) Bursitis

Inflammation of the small fluid-filled sac at the tip of the elbow, causing swelling, tenderness, and pain with leaning or bending.

Distal Biceps Tendinopathy

Strain or degeneration of the biceps tendon near the elbow, leading to pain during pulling, rowing, or deadlifts.

Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) Sprain

Injury to the main stabilizing ligament on the inside of the elbow, common in throwers and athletes who perform high-velocity or overhead movements.

Why People Choose Alinea Performance for Elbow Pain Relief

At Alinea Performance, we specialize in treating a wide range of elbow conditions:

We Identify the True Source of Your Elbow Pain

Most people assume elbow pain is just a tendon problem. We look deeper—at your shoulder, wrist, grip strength, mobility, lifting technique, and tissue irritability—so we treat the real driver of your pain, not just the irritated spot.

A Clear Roadmap Designed for Lifters, Athletes, and Active Adults

Tendon-related elbow pain improves fastest when loading is progressed correctly. We build a precise step-by-step plan that fits your training level and goals instead of handing you generic exercises that don’t change anything.

Stay Active While You Heal (No Forced Rest)

The biggest false belief is that elbow pain requires total rest. It doesn’t. We show you how to modify gripping, pressing, pulling, and daily tasks so you keep training safely while your elbow gets stronger and more resilient.

1:1 Hands-On Care Plus Targeted Strengthening

You get one-on-one treatment every visit, blending manual therapy, soft tissue work, dry needling (if appropriate), mobility drills, and progressive tendon loading—exactly what stubborn elbow pain needs to improve.

Proven Results With Tennis Elbow, Golfer’s Elbow, and Grip-Related Pain

Whether your pain came from lifting, work, grip-heavy hobbies, or overuse, our approach is designed to reduce pain quickly and rebuild the strength and stamina your elbow needs to perform at a high level again.

We Help You Avoid Injections, Braces, and Long-Term Tendon Issues

Most elbow injuries respond extremely well to conservative treatment when guided properly. We help you fix the root cause now so you don’t end up needing injections, chronic bracing, or dealing with recurring flare-ups.

In most cases, no. Most states allows for "Direct Access," meaning you can come directly to a physical therapist for an evaluation and treatment without seeing a doctor first. This gets you on the road to recovery faster. However, if you are using insurance there are some specific plans that do have requirements regarding signatures or referrals. If your insurance has specific requirements, we will let you know before your first visit.  (Medicare does NOT require a referral to get started with therapy).

During your first visit, you'll undergo a comprehensive evaluation. We'll discuss your medical history, assess your current condition, and perform a physical examination. This helps us understand your specific needs and goals. Based on this information, we'll develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique situation. You'll also have the opportunity to ask any questions and discuss any concerns you might have about your treatment.

Yes. When appropriate, we use manual therapy techniques like joint mobilization, soft-tissue work, dry needling, and directional loading strategies. These help decrease pain quickly so you can move more easily and progress into strengthening.

In many cases, yes. Most pain improves with the right combination of movement correction, strength training, and hands-on care. We’ll also tell you honestly if imaging or a surgical consult is appropriate.

Yes. One of our main goals is education. You’ll understand exactly what is causing your pain, why it’s happening, and how to fix it. Knowing the root cause reduces fear and speeds up recovery.

If pain limits your workouts, daily activities, sleep, or quality of life—even slightly—PT is the right next step. A short evaluation can determine exactly what’s going on and what your fastest path forward looks like.

Elbow pain can come from tendon irritation (like tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow), joint stiffness, ligament strain, nerve irritation, overuse from gripping or lifting, or poor shoulder/wrist mechanics that overload the elbow. A physical therapist’s job is to identify your specific driver so treatment can be targeted and effective.

Elbow pain is more serious if you experience sharp catching, significant weakness, numbness/tingling down the arm, trouble gripping objects, swelling, or pain that worsens quickly. Even mild symptoms benefit from early evaluation to prevent chronic tendon irritation.

Complete rest usually slows recovery. Gentle, guided movement helps restore blood flow and calm irritated tissues. A physical therapist will show you safe strengthening and mobility exercises while helping you avoid gripping or lifting patterns that aggravate the elbow.

Yes. Chronic elbow pain often persists because the underlying issues—tendon overload, poor mechanics, shoulder weakness, or wrist stiffness—were never corrected. Physical therapy addresses these root causes so even long-standing elbow pain can improve.

Absolutely. Conditions like radial nerve irritation, ulnar nerve irritation, and referred pain from the neck often create elbow or forearm symptoms. Physical therapy restores mobility, reduces nerve tension, improves mechanics, and helps prevent flare-ups.

Untreated elbow pain can progress into chronic tendon degeneration, persistent weakness, reduced grip strength, and recurring flare-ups with workouts or daily tasks. Early treatment restores healthy mechanics and prevents long-term dysfunction.
