Jaw Pain Relief in Tampa

Strength-based physical therapy that gets you out of pain and back to training confidently — without injections, surgery, or endless rest.

Common TMJ Pain Patterns We Treat Every Week

The Most Common TMJ Complaints We See in Athletes & Active Adults:

  • Sharp jaw pain or stiffness when opening, closing, chewing, or yawning
  • Persistent ache around the jaw, temples, or side of the face that can disrupt sleep
  • Tension headaches that start at the jaw and radiate into the temples or behind the eyes
  • Limited jaw opening or difficulty with full mouth movement during training or daily tasks
  • Clicking, popping, or grinding sensations when moving the jaw
  • Pain, fullness, or numbness that can radiate into the ear, cheek, or upper neck

Why TMJ Pain Doesn't Fix Itself

The jaw is a small but heavily used joint, responsible for talking, chewing, and stabilizing the head and neck. After treating countless TMJ cases, we’ve seen that waiting too long often leads to worsening pain, stiffness, and headaches.

Ignoring TMJ symptoms can lead to jaw tension, bite imbalances, headaches, ear discomfort, and compensatory neck strain. What starts as mild clicking or tightness often progresses into persistent pain that affects sleep, eating, training, and daily performance.

The good news? With the right approach, most TMJ issues are completely reversible.

Common Conditions We Treat in Tampa

At Alinea Performance, we specialize in treating a wide range of jaw conditions:

TMJ Disc Displacement

The disc inside the jaw joint shifts out of its normal position, causing clicking, popping, locking, or pain with jaw movement.

TMJ Dysfunction

General irritation or imbalance in the jaw joint or surrounding muscles that leads to pain, stiffness, clicking, or difficulty opening the mouth.

Jaw Hypermobility or Instability

The jaw moves too far or lacks proper stability, often causing frequent clicking, locking, or muscle overuse and irritation.

TMJ Capsulitis/ Synovitis

Inflammation of the joint capsule or inner lining of the TMJ, leading to sharp localized pain, swelling, and tenderness with chewing or opening the mouth.

Why People in Tampa Choose Alinea Performance for Jaw Pain Relief

At Alinea Performance, we specialize in treating a wide range of jaw conditions:

We Identify the Real Source of Your Jaw Pain — Not Just the Tight Muscles

TMJ pain often comes from neck dysfunction, poor jaw mechanics, stress-related tension, posture, or chewing imbalances—not just the joint itself. We assess the full system so we treat the true cause, not just symptoms.

A Personalized Plan to Reduce Pain, Clicking, and Locking

TMJ issues improve fastest with a combination of mobility, strength, relaxation strategies, and jaw retraining—not mouth guards alone. We create a clear, step-by-step plan tailored to your symptoms and daily habits.

We Don’t Just Tell You to “Reduce Stress” — We Fix What Stress Tightens

One of the biggest false beliefs is that TMJ pain is only stress-related. Stress contributes, but the underlying mechanics still matter. We retrain how the jaw, neck, and upper spine move so symptoms actually resolve.

Hands-On Treatment + Jaw Retraining for Faster Relief

We use manual therapy, soft tissue work, joint mobilization, dry needling (if appropriate), posture correction, and jaw coordination training to reduce pain, improve motion, and restore comfort with chewing and talking.

Proven Success With Clicking, Locking, Tension Headaches, and Facial Pain

Whether your jaw clicks, locks, grinds, aches, or causes headaches, we identify the pattern and correct the root dysfunction so your jaw feels stable and pain-free again.

We Help You Avoid Long-Term Mouthguard Dependence or Unnecessary Procedures

Mouthguards help protect your teeth, but they don’t fix underlying movement issues. We address the mechanics and muscular control so symptoms stop recurring and long-term solutions become possible.

No. The state of Florida does NOT require a referral to be seen by a physical therapist. This includes Medicare patients as Medicare does NOT require a referral. However, if you are using insurance there are some specific plans that do have requirements regarding signatures or referrals. If your insurance has specific requirements, we will let you know before your first visit.

During your first visit, you'll undergo a comprehensive evaluation. We'll discuss your medical history, assess your current condition, and perform a physical examination. This helps us understand your specific needs and goals. Based on this information, we'll develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique situation. You'll also have the opportunity to ask any questions and discuss any concerns you might have about your treatment.
