Common Wrist Pain Patterns We Treat Every Week

The Most Common Wrist Complaints We See in Athletes & Active Adults:

  • Sharp pain when pressing, pushing, or weight-bearing through hands especially during workouts
  • Persistent ache in the wrist or hand that can interfere with daily tasks or even sleep
  • Grip weakness or difficulty holding weights, bars, racquets
  • Limited wrist mobility affecting pull-ups, pickleball, or tennis
  • Clicking, popping, or catching with wrist bending or extension
  • Pain radiating from the forearm into the wrist or hand

Why Wrist and Hand Pain Doesn't Fix Itself

The elbow handles a lot of stress with lifting and gripping, which makes it easy to injure and slow to heal. From years of treating elbow pain, we know that waiting usually leads to worse symptoms.
Ignoring elbow pain leads to compensatory movement patterns, weakened muscles, and chronic instability. What starts as mild discomfort can escalate into a condition requiring surgery.
The good news? With the right approach, most wrist pain is completely reversible.

Common Conditions We Treat in Tampa

At Alinea Performance, we specialize in treating a wide range of wrist and hand conditions:

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Compression of the median nerve at the wrist, causing numbness, tingling, or pain in the thumb, index, and middle fingers—often worse at night or with repetitive tasks.

De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis

Inflammation of the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist, leading to pain with gripping, texting, lifting, or twisting motions.

Triceps Tendinopathy

Overuse or irritation of the triceps tendon at the back of the elbow, causing pain with pressing, push-ups, dips, or overhead lifting.

Wrist Tendinopathy

Overuse irritation of the wrist flexor or extensor tendons, causing pain with gripping, lifting, and weight-bearing. Common in lifters, racquet sports, and desk workers.

TFCC Injury (Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex Tear)

Damage to the cartilage on the small finger side of the wrist, leading to pain with rotation, weight-bearing, or pushing up from a chair or floor.

Wrist Sprain / Ligament Strain

Overstretching or tearing of wrist ligaments from falls, heavy lifting, or sports, causing swelling, sharp pain, and reduced stability.

Trigger Finger (Stenosing Tenosynovitis)

Irritation of the tendon sheaths in the fingers causing clicking, catching, or locking during movement. Symptoms typically worsen in the morning or with repeated gripping.

Ulnar Tunnel Syndrome (Guyon’s Canal Syndrome)

Compression of the ulnar nerve at the wrist causing numbness, weakness, or pain on the pinky side of the hand. Often aggravated by cycling, weightlifting, or prolonged pressure on the wrist.

Scaphoid or Carpal Instability

Irritation or instability of the small wrist bones causing pain with weight-bearing, pushing, or gripping. Often results from wrist hyperextension or repeated loading.

Why People in Tampa Choose Alinea Performance for Wrist and Hand Pain Relief

At Alinea Performance, we specialize in treating a wide range of wrist and hand conditions:

We Identify Whether Your Wrist Pain Is Truly a Wrist Problem

Many wrist and hand issues come from the elbow, shoulder, neck, or poor loading mechanics—not just the wrist itself. We assess the entire upper limb so we treat the real source of your pain and prevent recurring flare-ups.

A Customized Plan That Fixes Strength, Mobility, and Technique

Braces and basic stretches only provide temporary relief. We create a step-by-step plan that improves mobility, grip strength, tendon loading, and movement mechanics for long-lasting results.

Stay Active While You Heal — No More “Just Stop Lifting or Typing” Advice

One of the biggest false beliefs is that wrist pain requires total rest. We help you stay active by adjusting grip positions, load, technique, and activity so you continue doing what you love safely while healing.

Hands-On Treatment + Progressive Tendon Loading

Wrist and hand pain respond best to a combination of manual therapy, soft tissue work, dry needling (if appropriate), nerve glides, and progressive strengthening. This approach accelerates healing and restores function quickly.

Proven Success With Carpal Tunnel, Tendinitis, Grip-Related Pain, and Desk-Related Strain

Whether your pain comes from lifting, typing, gaming, manual labor, or overuse, we identify the specific movement pattern causing the issue and fix it—so symptoms stop coming back.

We Help You Avoid Injections, Braces, or Surgery Whenever Possible

Many wrist and hand conditions improve fully with targeted rehab. Our approach addresses the underlying problem so you don’t rely on braces, medications, or unnecessary procedures.

No. The state of Florida does NOT require a referral to be seen by a physical therapist. This includes Medicare patients as Medicare does NOT require a referral. However, if you are using insurance there are some specific plans that do have requirements regarding signatures or referrals. If your insurance has specific requirements, we will let you know before your first visit.

During your first visit, you'll undergo a comprehensive evaluation. We'll discuss your medical history, assess your current condition, and perform a physical examination. This helps us understand your specific needs and goals. Based on this information, we'll develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique situation. You'll also have the opportunity to ask any questions and discuss any concerns you might have about your treatment.
